Did Jesus say that He is God, to worship him?

Did Jesus say that He is God and to worship him?

At a glance in the bible, the answer may be no. If Jesus has not said to worship him, and did not claim that he is God, does it mean Jesus is not God and therefore we should not worship him. Well, this is one of the the arguments that usually Islamic preachers and scholars have been asking or arguing with. Islam accept that Jesus is son of God and a prophet like many others. However, they do not accept the fact that Jesus is the God, the only way to heaven. Bible answers several times for this particular question, but lack of our knowledge resist us from finding the right answers for this question. And often we lack the sense of truth and forget that Jesus never tried to express his equality with God when he was in this world, instead what he did is (Philippians 2, vs.5-11 King James Version (KJV))

5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus was role model to every human in this world, he was born like a man, he obeyed his parents, he was hunger, had food with people, washed the feet of his disciples, even though he was God. He came to this world to live like a human (when he was also God) and wanted to show us how we can survive everything and grow like him. therefore, we can never say and argue to him that saying like Jesus you never lived like a man/human, therefore you do not know our feelings. Hence, dear brothers and sisters, be like Jesus who has showed the right path to reach in the kingdom of God.

Jesus revealed his majesty once when he was praying (John 17, V.5 English Standard Version (ESV))

5 "And now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had with you before the world existed"

Jesus also said to Philip (John 14, v.9 New International Version (NIV))

9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.

Another fact, Jesus did not say to worship him as he was giving all the glories to God. At the same time he also did not say that we should not worship him.

At last, but not least, father and Jesus allow us to worship him and did not say to not worship Jesus. (John 20, 28-29  New International Version (NIV))

28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”
29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed;blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Revelation 1, v.17 says [New International Version (NIV)]
17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

Read some more verses that Jesus proves he is God and even God to David, the king of Israel and prophet of God. (Mathew 22, NIV)

43He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’? For he says,

44“ ‘The Lord said to my Lord:

“Sit at my right hand

until I put your enemies

under your feet.” ’e

David says (Psalms 110, NIV)

  1. The Lord says to my lord:

“Sit at my right hand

until I make your enemies

a footstool for your feet.”

What do these verses mean?

Jesus is God and the father God and Jesus and Holy Spirit are trinity and one God by spirit. The relation between Father God and Jesus and Holy Spirit are spiritual and there is no blood relation or flesh relation. Human beings must have the spirit of God to see and define the spirit of God and the relation between father God and Jesus. Until and unless the Human beings out of this spirit, they will not understand the spiritual relation between father God and Jesus, the spiritual relation between Jesus and Holy spirit, and the spiritual relation between holy spirit and father God. Quran itself proclaims the birth of Adam and Hawa (eve) were born by the spiritual power (holy power) of God and without sexual relation. Even Jesus (Isa) was born by the spiritual power, not the by biological or sexual power. Hence God does not want to create something as humans think, or god does not want to do something as our expectations. This is why Bible says Jesus is God and he is not the person of this world. Jesus is God and he calls father God by spiritual relation and that is not blood and flesh relation.

In the same way, Jesus has given the privilege and authority to call him as father. (Romans 8)

14For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.f And by him we cry, “Abba,g Father.” 16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Now, we can call him and father God as father. It is not biological relation, but spiritual. What makes us to call our friends' mom and dad as mom and dad as their own children call them? E.g. many of my friends call my father as father like I call him as they love him and vice versa, but this love is not through biological power or blood relation, but it is a spiritual power that is "Love". Yes, here is my point "God is Love" (1 john 4, verse 8). God sent us to this world to love each other, in fact for the real love which is "agape" that does not expect anything from anyone, but loving everyone. That is what Jesus did. And Jesus gave his blood and died on the cross and even he came to this world to die for us for our redemption from sin, curse, and death. Every one will die, but whoever dies in Jesus (lives and dies in Jesus) will live forever.

The people who do not have the spiritual power and wisdom, usually argue that if Jesus is son of God, there should be blood relation or sexual relation to be a son and father. They think in such a way because they are humans and do not have the spirit of god that lived in Jesus and his disciples. Bible says about such people that (Genesis-6, NIV)

5The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time.

Human thoughts are wicked, sexual, immoral, fleshly, and always belongs to this world, and human thoughts are not for the spiritual world or heavenly. Only very few people in this world are free from such wicked thoughts as the spirit of God lives in them. therefore, whoever obtain that heavenly spirit, will understand the trinity form of God.

some Islamic scholars unnecessarily argue against the fact that Jesus is God even many of them realize that Jesus is God. They can not agree this, because when they accept the fact that Jesus is God, it is going to be the end of Islamic fundamentalism.
